• Copyright

Copyright laws protect generally "original works of authorship fixed in any tangible medium of expression." Works of authorship include, for example, literary, musical, and dramatic works, motion pictures, and sound recordings. A tangible medium of expression includes some physical medium such as paper, a CD, or movie film. Also included is storage in a digital device such as a computer memory or hard drive. Copyright protection gives the owner the right, with exceptions, to control how the work is used and includes the right to control copying of that work.
